I realize it is counter intuitive for me to tell you how to do PR on your own – I should be selling my services and those of my partners. However, there are some thing’s that you can do on your own and save some money – IF you are willing and able.Consider, Jim Marzola, owner of AbilityCRM, a Phoenix-based company. Jim, a former Kick-Start Marketing client, is a great marketer in his own right. He knows that he has to tell people about his company in order for them to know about AbilityCRM…bottomline. And remember, that is what marketing is all about – telling people who you are, what you do and why they might just need your product or service.
What did Jim do that was ever so brilliant? He made a commitment to himself to write a press release for every possible good event in the company, and then he made a commitment to send it out to relevant places with his target market in mind. This included the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. He sent the press release, they read it, and it was timely enough that they asked him to be in an article in the February issue of their member magazine - online AND hardcopy. Not only that, he was on the cover.
Simple idea, great execution, right time right place.
